Creativity is what being a woman is all about. Survival may keep you alive but to be creative is the essence of intelligence. Sometimes women can forget that we are the creators of the species. There is is no substitute for the human womb and the life that we can give!
By nature of our birth women have wider cortex at the base of the brain and this allows us certain gifts such as multi-tasking which were particularly useful during prehistoric times when the women had to fend of attackers from the family their men were out hunting. And even today, the wider corpus callosum in women's brains give us super-powers. Think of a busy woman answering the phone while stirring the Bolognese and fixing a toy for her child – after doing a busy day in the office. She probably has to tell her husband where the butter is in the fridge while it is straight in front of him at the same time too!
Anyone who's done a creative writing class, been to art college, medical school, been to the theatre or stood for five minutes in a library or bookshop will see the evidence of women's creative minds. But why aren't women rising to the top in politics, business and the media? Why are we holding back? At the moment, the G20 are meeting in the US to try to put pressure on the world's banks to stop paying out such big bonuses, because the world's economy is in ruins. . . but where are the creative ideas for change?
What we know is that creative women are stronger. Creative women make greater efforts with relationships. And creative women have greater happiness than women who aren't exploring the creative minds that nature gave them.

How is it that moments after meeting my neighbour I felt as though we had so much history, that our friendship spanned time itself? I know her and I want to know her. I want to know everything. I want to know what she's lived and how it came to be that despite the challenges and hardships she is True with a capital T. She traversed the divide, and it is these challenges coupled with the very way she faced them, that transformed her into the whole person she is today. My neighbour is grounded in a knowledge that only she knows, not unlike the Mona Lisa, and it is this knowledge that makes her grounded, solid, yet a breath of fresh air. She enjoys her life tremendously, she has fun. She treasures what she has while exploring new avenues for her art - ultimately as a communion with the divine.
Her courage, her sense of humour, her honesty, her healthy sense of irony, and her open heart are but some of her extraordinary qualities. I've seen her landscape her magnificent garden, showcase her artwork at one of our city’s premier events, teach at her renowned school, cook with gusto (with gorgeous results), and manage her artists co-op.
What sets her apart is the way she cares for her family, the way she kindles her relationship with each one KNOWING each moment is precious. She has looked after friends in need: she cooked for me and my family for weeks after the birth of our second child 5 months ago. My neighbour kept us alive, I tell you. We may have a third just to experience her cooking again. She is dear to me. I want to be there for her, to share with her whatever she needs, and to explore with her a world filled with possibilities.
